First: About the center
The National Center for Studies and Social Development was established in 1390 AH corresponding to 1970 AD, it was called at that time (Training and Applied Research Center), the ministry made a partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the aim of establishing the center based on the best possible, this partnership requires the ministry's commitment to financial expenses and providing appropriate work environment, while UNDP is committed to provide technical support to the center through the provision of a cadre of international experts in various disciplines to serve scientific research, and provide a number of fellowships abroad for some employees of the ministry to get higher degrees in the fields of specialization needed by the ministry, in addition to providing the devices, instrument, and illustrative tools of training and rehabilitation for the employees of the ministry, and holding training seminars on the ground in the various regions of the Kingdom. The ministry's partnership with the united nations program ended in 1411 AH, after the center was able to carry out the tasks entrusted to it and to meet the research and training needs with scientifically qualified national cadres.

Research and field studies department:
The specialized social research based on scientific methodology is one of the main objectives for which national center for studies and social development was established, so the interest of research and social studies was a prominent feature of the work of the center, this interest is due to complete conviction of the usefulness of such research and studies for the advancement of social work through feedback achieved by research and studies. The center also implements many social studies, and print Master and Doctorate thesis in social research field at the ministry expense.
The center take into account when choosing topics of research and studies the new and urgent changes in the society, and they get great concern and primacy of the research, then come phenomena and problems that witness remarkable development.
Until these researches and studies bear fruit, it was very important to ensure the selection of qualified researchers, academics and specialists who can professionally study the social problems, starting with developing a theoretical framework, and through analyzing the results and ending in formulating the recommendations, and this is the methodology of the national center for studies and social development.
Training department:
Training is the real investment of human resources, and is considered a key element and one of the main axes for social development. Training is not a goal in itself, but it is the most effective way to develop human performance, which in turn is reflected in the performance level of social institutions.
In this sense, the ministry was keen on the development of human resources in the social field to be aware of the importance of the work they do and touches the life of the different categories and classes of the community, and this in turn will reflect on the ability and effectiveness of social institutions in providing services and duties entrusted to it, only through specialized institutional training.
The center implements a number of training programs through two training semesters per year according to the annual training plan, attended by a number of specialists, social researchers and observers and psychologists from the staff of the ministry and some governmental and private sectors who are related to the topics of the programs, which touches the services provided by the ministry sectors in social issues. Those programs cover the following fields and topics: (social and psychological counseling, social awareness, social supervision, social protection, juvenile care, care for the disabled, orphan care, social security, service and social development, productive families, charitable and voluntary work.
Those programs also address the professional and technical aspects, focusing on the following: (developing the skills of the observers, optimal dealing with people with special needs and how to deal with them, communication methods and preparation of reports, social research and case study, coordination of efforts, meetings management, perfect dealing with beneficiaries of the ministry services, management of social institutions and planning its programs, using the psychological tests and standards within the social institutions.
