MLSD organizes a health festival in bid to examine 300 persons with disabilities

The Ministry of Labor and Social Development (MLSD) organized on Sunday the 2nd Edition of the Health Festival for Persons with Disabilities in partnership with SABIC, which took place at Alfaisal University in Riyadh and attended by children with disabilities and their families. The festival which had recreational activities aimed to conduct preliminary check-up on children to make sure they function well in terms of their sensory receptors and their physique, as well as educating their families with how to keep them in a good health. Eng. Al-Hejab bin Ahmed Al-Hazmi, deputy minister for social care and family at MLSD, stressed the ministry is keen to develop services for PwD and raise the awareness of the society about their medical needs and how to maintain and monitor their health, in addition to how best to treat them and how to include them into the society. Al-Hazmi expressed his thanks to the sponsoring entities, partners and volunteers for their efforts in achieving the initiative and serving PwD. On the other hand, Miss Khulood al-Shaya, director of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Unit at MLSD, said the festival comes within the CSR Department’s initiatives in partnership with the private sector, aiming to diagnose the health and safety of PwD and educate their families with their general heath. Al-Shaya emphasized the festival examined about 300 children with disabilities with the help from 200 male and female volunteers in the medical and organizational fields, saying it assisted the medical professionals to discover health issues they may suffer as these children cannot express what they feel because of their disabilities. At the festival, the medical specialists checked the health of children including mouth and teeth, sight and hearing effectiveness and flat feet to make sure their mental and physical conditions are good, she added. The children spent fun time with their families and enjoyed the recreational and art corners as well as games and contests that took place at the festival, the director of the CSR said as well.
